Izakaya and introduce Osaka street food to Vancouver locals.
Osaka is the second largest city in Japan after Tokyo. During the Edo period (1603-1867), Osaka was
known as the “kitchen of the nation” and the center of commerce in Japan, where rice and other specialty
products were traded. With this background, Osaka’s unique culinary culture has developed, and the
region is still crowded with tourists from Japan and abroad, who enjoy both traditional dishes and
inexpensive street food.
The two staff members who manage Tramasa are originally from Osaka, which led to the creation of Guu
Toramasa based on the theme of Osaka’s food culture.

Guu with Otokomae in Gastown brings a contemporary twist to the regular Izakaya menu. “Otokomae” means “being an ambassador for men (representing their best features)” or “true masculinity”, both physically and mentally. Each of our dishes carefully crafted to an almost “art-like” perfection, making them both visually pleasing and delicious. Guu Original on Thurlow is where the Izakaya boom all started. The Thurlow location is not only the first Guu to open but, it was the very first Izakaya in Vancouver.
